This week we focus on the importance of managing emotions for a four-year-old child. It is important to use the Positive Behavior Support program to help manage their emotions. A great part of the program is creating a "Safe Place" for your child where they can calm down after frustrating situations.
Play the song for your child, then ask them to remember as many items as they can that start with the letter M! Replay the song and see if they can name more the second time!
Estimated Time: 15-20 Minutes
What better way to start music week than creating your own musical instrument with your child? See below for materials needed and ideas!
Estimated Time: 30-40 Minutes
Let's review patterns this week through music! This worksheet will help your child review colors, patterns, and reinforce their cutting skills.
Estimated Time: 20-30 Minutes
Listen to the video, then have your child practice writing the number 13 in their notebook.
Bonus: Write the world thirteen for your child and have them write it below yours!
Estimated Time: 10-15 Minutes
Believe it or not, having your child participate in "Freeze Dance" helps them develop an understanding of musical cues and alertness. Remember to have fun!
Estimated Time: 5-10 Minutes
As you know, our focus for this week is emotional management. Have your child watch the following video and answer the prompted questions. If your child is taking a little longer to answer, feel free to pause the video for added time.
Estimated Time: 5-10 Minutes
Have your child listen to the song, then go around your home looking for items that are in the shape of a rectangle.
Estimated Time: 20 Minutes
This is a lengthier activity, but it is very fun for you and your child to do together. Go through the video without your child and see if you can print or recreate the flags of the countries represented prior to listening to the video together. Write the name of each country under each flag, show your child the flag and have them repeat the name of the country as they listen to the music. Remember: Flags are in the shape of RECTANGLES!
Estimated Time: 45 Minutes
This is a fun worksheet that should be relatively easy for your child. Have them color the rectangle on the left the same color as the rectangles on the right!
Estimated Time: 10-15 Minutes
Play the story and song for your child. Make sure to point out the words shown on the screen.
Then, play the story and song once more and pause at the end when the words come on the screen. Help your child sound out the words. It is okay if they are unable to fully sound out the words - we are introducing them to reading!
Estimated Time: 15 Minutes
Does your child know the different sounds of instruments? This video can help! Help your child identify all of the musical instruments in the video. Bonus points if you can actually show them the instruments in person or if you can play them a song and help them identify what instruments the musician is using!
Estimated Time: 10-30 Minutes
This is a medium difficulty worksheet with several parts. Have patience with your child and know that it may take longer to complete.
Estimated Time: 20-30 Minutes
Play the song for your child, then ask them to remember as many items as they can that start with the letter M! Replay the song and see if they can name more the second time!
Estimated Time: 15-20 Minutes
To bring an end to our musical week, have your child identify which items are musical instruments and which are not. Feel free to review Thursday's video for added help!
Estimated Time: 10-20 Minutes
Let's review uppercase vs lowercase using the letter of the week! Remember: if your child gets stuck, have an example of uppercase and lowercase letters for them to reference if needed.
Estimated Time: 15-30 Minutes
